Defying Negativity

This was my outfit when I did a hosting job for My House Husband, Ikaw Na! Grand Press Conference. The thrift gods blessed me with this houndstooth-printed pencil skirt which looked good as new when I found it in an ukay shop in Cubao. I actually had this on sale for P300 during the DLSU December bazaar (F-STOP Vintage Collection) but to my surprise, nobody had the interest to buy it. And so, I decided I'll just keep it to myself because maybe it was really meant for me.

Everyone loved this skirt when they saw it! Aisa even said she would purchase this if she only knew that it is used to be for sale. Haha! The houndstooth print has made a huge comeback this season as seen on the Fall/Winter 2011 runway shows of Alexander Mcqueen, Salvatore Ferragamo and Marc Jacobs.

By the way, I got a few negative comments from anonymous people (which I opt not to publish) in one of my previous posts, Do you know why we wear red during Christmas? and I would like to say what's on my mind.

First and foremost, I created my blog and named it Style and Soul for a reason. If you're expecting to read about my recent shopping hauls and the things I do on a daily basis each and every time I publish and outfit post, then sorry to disappoint you.

Fashion can indeed attract but I aim to use words to make an impact. Whenever I feel like it, I blog about politics, society, life, God and other matters of my soul. This is the reason why I would like to consider myself different from other fashion bloggers. I want my "followers" to read, to think and to reflect. I don't want them to merely look at my photos, admire my outfits or even idolize me and at the end of the day get nothing out of my blog. Let me make myself clear: I don't blog for that purpose.

In my Christmas entry, I know, it's none of my business how other people spend their money. However, I also have the right to express a personal opinion and I have an advocacy that I wanted readers to reflect upon. If some are getting offended or hurt, I will not make apologies because I was true to myself and to the message I wanted to get across.

If others want to blog just photos, just outfits or whatnot, that's their choice and I don't really care. But with my blog, I want to express myself to the point that blogging would seem impossible if I don't write something from my heart. Yes, this blog is about fashion. But this is also about the many other things, more important things than that.

  3. All I can say is: Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

My father once explained to me that just like our fingers which are not of the same length, people differs in so many ways. Different views or perspective in life, opinions, qualities or traits, and so on. And we just have to respect that.

I commend you for being firm with your opinion. :)

  4. agree with the previous opinions stated. babe, i admire you for sticking to your guns with what you want. you know that. and this works for you, and you're happy with it. keep doing what you like and you know you'll go places with that than conforming to what you wouldn't want.:)

  6. oh dearie, i stand corrected, it should have been "feeling is subjective" instead of "objective". no worries dear, i'm not in any way pulling you down. i'm just sharing my thoughts, much as you do. :) my 2 cents, thick folds of moolah are meant to be spent. after all what are we all working hard for, ayt? keep blogging and continue sharing your thoughts. an unsolicited advice: be open as well to others' opinion opposite from yours.

stay fasyon and happy new year! :)

  11. Honestly. I visit your blog because there is something to read. I like photos but if I just quickly scroll down to see the photos, that means I am bored. I like bloggers who "write" and who write "well".

I am a writer before anything else and I've received my own dose of criticism (from friends, no less) but it's okay. If they want to complain about what I do --- then they should just blog about it, hahaha!
