Even though I'm not very fond of the beach, when I got an invitation from Globe Tattoo to go to Boracay for a little getaway, I said yes. I figured, declining would only mean how much of a KJ (kill-joy) I am for not having fun every once in a while, and how dumb it could possibly be to say no to an all-expense-paid trip.

Weeks before the trip, I couldn't stop imagining the outfits that I'd be wearing during my 3-day stay there. But I was lazy to ready my things and kept on putting it off and little did I know, I got so busy till I realized it was only three hours before my trip! Nakakaloka. I was sooo unprepared. All my imagined outfits are in the laundry, Raleene and I were texting each other what we'd be bringing at 1:00AM and I ended up stuffing random items in my bag. Gaaahd, I hate cramming so much.

I then arrived at the airport two hours before my 7:00AM flight. While waiting, I was wondering what the other bloggers would be like since the only familiar faces that I'd be seeing are Raleene, Cheyser and Megann (who currently works for Tattoo).

At first, I was anxious about socializing with strangers, but knowing myself, I usually loosen up after a while till I become my talkative version. Believe me, sobrang madaldal ako and being one has a mixed review. Either people love it or would find it too annoying.

Thank goodness I sat beside Kring Elenzano during the flight. We instantly hit it off. To those who aren't familiar with her, Kring hosts a humor blog and anything-korean or K-Pop blog plus she's a video blogger with as much as 600K views (wow). She considers herself as one of the 2nd generation bloggers who have been posting online since around 2006, when blogging wasn't that popular yet. Finally, I found someone who talks more than me, haha! I listened to her narratives of how things used to be way back when she started.

As soon as we reach our destination, we immediately settled in our 2-bedroom suite at The Palms of Boracay. Raleene and I shared a room together while Megann and Cheyser were roomies for the time being.

Movie Premieres

As part of cutting my back logs, let me share with you some of the movie premieres that I was able to attend to for the past few weeks.

Twilight: Breaking Dawn (Part 1)

Moschino fragrance line sponsored a Breaking Dawn premiere last November 19 held at Eastwood City. The wonderful people from Prestige Brands Philippines invited a couple of bloggers to go. I went there with Bestie and Paul plus my boyfriend JR.

We forgot to bring our camera, hence the lack of personal photos in this post but I'm grateful that Prestige invited us because I wouldn't have watched the film if not for free. LOL. I know Twilight has a lot of fans world wide but I'm really just not one of them. I've heard from Paul that the book (version) was a really good read. However, I find the film just too cheesy for my taste.

I appreciate the honeymoon cinematography and the character's beautiful house in Brazil.

Along with the movie, a new fragrance was introduced to us - Moschino Forever. It's a timeless fragrance which represents the classic Moschino fashion - with elegance and irony. This is specially created for the classic man with a strong personality that enables him to be original and unique (source: press kit).

I love the linear and classic glass bottle with its signature Moschino logo on top.

The fragrance has a fresh, strong and sensual, citrus scent with accents of bergamot, kumquat, and star anise. It also has a spicy hint to it brought about by clary sage (herbal plant), tonka beans and black pepper together with a woody base concocted from sandalwood and musk (source: press kit). For you to further imagine what this perfume smells like, I linked its ingredients (above) so you would know what are these plants that I am talking about.

Won't Last a Day Without You

Our good friends Niche and Coy from Globe/Globe Tattoo invited us to the premiere night of Won't Last a Day Without You, the latest movie of pop singer Sarah Geronimo and male celebrity Gerald Anderson. Again, this movie is not my cup of tea but just for fun, I said yes and dragged (yet again) my boyfriend JR to accompany me. Too bad, some of my fellow bloggers from the Globe Tattoo LED billboard campaign weren't able to go because it was a last minute (day itself) invitation.

OMG. Megamall was PACKED with Sarah and Gerald's fans. They all went crazy at the sight of the movie's stars and cast. I couldn't take a decent photo and so, instead of waiting outside for the program, my boyfriend and I went inside the movie house and waited for more than an hour before it finally began. The invitation said 7PM but I think it started around 8:30PM na.

The story revolves around DJ Heidi (Sarah G.), who gives love advice to radio listeners. One of her callers, Melissa (Megann Young) sought her guidance concerning her playboy boyfriend Andrew (Gerald A.) and Heidi promptly advised her to break up with him on nationwide radio. Angered and embarrassed by the incident, Andrew attempts to sue Heidi and to make up for it, she tries to patch things up between the couple. Turns out, this love-counselor-student-relationship resulted in them falling in love with each other.

I was surprisingly pleased with the movie. When I went there, I knew what I was getting myself into: another romantic-comedy oozing with cheesy and pa-cute scenes but the director made sure it was limited to a minimum and so it was tolerable. Sarah was incredibly funny and was a natural actress. The two had believable chemistry.

It wasn't perfect (I hated the resolution towards the ending!) but kudos to the script writer for benta DJ dialogues and I'd like to thank the person responsible for casting Joey De Leon, who played Heidi's father in the film. Haha! His character, Pablo, a-once-stellar rock star who happened to be one of Andrew's idols, provided ample comic relief and astig factor to the movie.

I can now finally cross out having a billboard in my bucket list.

When I was a kid, a part of me secretly wanted to be a commercial model for TV and print. I've always wanted to be the next Candy or Meg Magazine cover girl and/or someone from a really recognizable TV commercial bordering on wanting to be on showbiz (not to be a celebrity) because I simply wanted to perform.

When I was in elementary, I took workshops (like most of you) on singing, dancing and theater. And even though I wouldn't want to admit it, yes I secretly auditioned for some of those star searches on television or go-sees for some campaigns and never bothered mentioning it to anyone because I didn't want to feel embarrassed when my friends would find out I didn't make it.

So there, I said it. I didn't make it - in almost anything I tried out for as a child; as far as these fields [modeling / showbiz] are concerned. As I got older, I have realized the truth that in these careers, even though I believe that I have talent, it's never going to be enough because society's notion of what beauty is will always be the prevailing or deciding factor. Here in the Philippines, the main standards are tall, white, chinita or any foreign-blood look, biz-related friends or families or connections.

I know, not everyone in the industry adheres to these qualities. But most of them though. Even Danica Magpantay (who yes, has defied these standards) had her foot at the door of the modeling world because (even though she won the competition through hard work) it is worth noting that she's also a daughter of a supermodel to begin with (falls under the category of relatives working in the same business). And if there are any exceptions like Nora Aunor, Melai Cantiveros, Ai-ai Delas Alas, Eugene Domingo, Pokwang, Kiray, Boy Abunda, Allan K. and some others (local showbiz personalities), let me just repeat that they are merely exceptions (either really talented or just being made fun of, really).

This little childhood dream that I once had was long gone and I'm happily working behind the camera for various production work now (management, design, styling, photography) and hosting events every time a project offer comes up. The only moment that I relive that dream is when I get to be the star in this humble, little blog of mine (haha). But to clarify, I blog not because of fame. I blog because I like to write (isn't it obvious how long and chatty most of my entries are? haha).

And to tie up my first statement at the beginning of this entry to everything that I was just saying, all these references to my little childhood dream, is because I had been given a totally unexpected opportunity to be featured in my first billboard (L.E.D) for Globe Tattoo's "I Choose Tattoo" campaign. Funny because I knew then that I'm not made for this but it was a blessing that landed to me because of this blog and our Bloggers United endeavor. Being a pioneer of a blogger-initiated event for a cause with Aisa and Ana, Globe thought of having us in their roster of online personalities and social media mavens.

False humility aside, there's a small part of me that feels so shy being next to Garovs Garovillo, Camille Co, Dominique Tiu, The Plump Pinays, Paul Jatayna, Lloyda Lim, Vince Golangco, Lauren Dado and these other awesome bloggers! But... I am a part of the pack for a reason and I need to work on that disbelief and start turning it around and claiming this for myself. Mental note: Confidence is key.

The billboard shoot took place around the last week of September and some of the other bloggers have already blogged about the behind-the-scenes shoot on their blogs. On the other hand, I decided to wait for the billboard to come out before saying anything. However, I wasn't totally mum about it because I posted a status message about it on my facebook wall. Haha.

Thinking about what to wear on the shoot was never a problem because we were initially told that the shots are medium close-ups anyway and that, they would put markings of a fake "I Choose Tattoo" tattoo on our body parts. I think my best asset are my shoulders so that was what I wanted to emphasize in my photo. I wore a plain off-shoulder shirt, crochet cover-up with golden beads and striped shorts. Everyone looked fabulous by the way!

We also met new bloggers over pizza dinner at Cyrus Panganiban's photo studio.

Would you believe this was my first time (and only time yet) wearing fake eyelashes? I would want to wear it more often sana if only I know how to put it on without it looking too fake. Haha.

The shoot was a lot of fun and you can really tell by looking at Paul and Ana here. Halooo guys!

I felt so much pressure after seeing these guys work it! Siyempre, di papakabog lola niyo! I wanted to look great in my photos like them. But if you're wondering why I don't have the others' photos, it's either they were already done by the time I arrived or I was busy chatting with everyone on the set. Haha.

Everyone had a really good time seeing each other and Paul is just so hot that girls flocked him like this! Feel na feel naman ni Aisa okaaay! Hahaha

Our billboards are finally out! Catch them at Katipunan, Edsa Pioneer, Lawton Manila. Will post the final photos in my next entry. :) I just feel super blessed right now... I'm just so thankful to God for this, and for all his plans for me in the future.

As an advocate of budget fashion, I want you guys to know that it's not about "what" you're wearing, but how you carry it!

Globe Tattoo made its mark in the social media world, particularly in the Philippines, with its first-ever Globe Tatt Awards. This project is very timely, especially now that the use of social media networks, especially in the country, is in full boom. Blogs, Facebook, Twitter and Youtube accounts have been playing a major role in the lives of Filipinos today, who devote most of their hours now by using the internet - the mecca of all information (and junk) in this time and age.

The social media world, though filled with a bunch of nonsense, is also teeming with talent, creativity and inspiration. And to recognize those individuals at the forefront of Pinoy cyberspace "whose fiery passion for greatness, founded on individuality" has made impact on other netizens, the Tatt Awards is a noble initiative worthy of credit.

Last August 26, the "movers and shakers" of our local online community were awarded according to their own niche. With 10 categories honoring those who have made a remarkable impression on the local social media landscape, the Tatt Awards council searched and has found the best.

The awarding ceremony was held at Manila Peninsula's Rigodon Ballroom, hosted by Tim Yap and fashion icon and socialite, Divine Lee. The event was packed with performances from Youtube sensations Maria Aragon, Arjhon and bands from the local indie music scene. It was well-attended, with a great crowd of press, media personalities, bloggers, citizen journalists, bands and other influential people and the like.

Aside from the awarding of the winners, for me one of the best highlights of the event was Maria Ressa's key note speech. It was moving, touching, informative, intellectual and enlightening. I wish I could make time to create a Beyond Fashion segment on it. I really feel that her message should be passed on to others. That's how powerful I think it is.

One of my idols (in broadcast journalism), Maria Ressa gave a very inspiring opening remarks. I love her blog!

Cecile Zamora-Van Straten a.k.a Chuvaness.com presented the Stylismo award.
